VP HARDWARE REVIEW: SERIES-B DNA 75W BY JAC VAPOUR

JAC Vapour is a UK company based in Edinburgh, Scotland. They launched in 2010 and then in 2011 JAC’s launched the V3i battery and cartomiser, the very first bottom coil cartomiser on the UK market. Through 2012 and into 2013 they continued to grow.

In 2013 they introduced their own UK made e-liquids and put together a team to develop the hardware side of things. In 2014 they introduced the first vapourless range of e-liquids – Clear Steam. They also introduced their first UK designed e-cigarette – Series-E.

In 2015 they expanded into Germany offering online facilities for German vapers. They also engineered and introduced the Series-B Tilt. JAC Vapour were one of the first companies in the UK to design and engineer their own products. The Series-B Tilt went on to win an award for Best MOD by Gizmodo UK.

In 2016 they introduced the Series-S an all in one device, introduced their own DIY range. JAC Vapour also made a partnership with Arymi and exclusively offered the Arymi Gille to the UK market which has gone on and been given some great reviews.

They offer a wide range of juices and devices for beginners through to the more experienced vaper. They have four juice ranges, UK made e-liquids with 17 flavours, the Standard e-liquids with 17 flavours, Clear Steam with 5 flavours and Liquid Zwo their newest range with 2 flavours. You can check out my review of some of their flavours by clicking here.

I went to the Vaper Expo UK – The Big Weekend and had an excellent time (if you would like to check out my visit click here). Prior to the event one of the vendors I was looking forward to meeting, putting faces to messages was JAC Vapour. Just before the event JAC Vapour went through a re-brand to change things up and to keep ahead of the times.

When I finally found their stand it was great to chat with the guys at JAC Vapour. They asked me if I would do a review of the S22-Tank (check out my review by clicking here) and the new Series-B DNA 75W which I have for you today. It was really cool to speak to these guys who are extremely passionate about what they do.

SERIES-B DNA 75W

What comes in the box:

  • 1 x MOD
  • 1 x USB charging cable
  • 1 x User manual

Taking a look at the box

The square box comes in a hard plastic sleeve which is shrink wrapped (removed before photos taken).

On the front of the box you can see the actual device through the clear plastic sleeve, also there is a picture/drawing of the device, the name of the device and the company logo.

On the back of the box there is another picture/drawing of the device, the name of the device and the company logo.

On top of the box there is the company logo, on the bottom there are some warning symbols.

On one side of the box there is the company address and web address and on the other side there is some information about the device.

The Series-B DNA 75W specifications:

  • Output Voltage – 0.2V to 6.2V
  • Output Current – 30 Amps (continuous)
  • Output Current – 40 Amps (peak)
  • Atomiser resistance (temperature control) – 0.15Ω typical
  • Atomiser Resistance (Kanthal) – 0.25Ω typical
  • Screen size – 0.91″ OLED

The size of the device:

  •  Height – 88mm
  • Width – 35mm
  • Depth – 21mm
  • Weight – 150g

Taking a look at the device

The main body of the device is a soft matt black rubberised finish with the battery door being a smooth metal finish.

On the front of the device there is a good sized fire button at the top, the OLED screen is below the fire button and is cut into the device. Below the screen is the +/- button and below that the micro USB port. The buttons are painted with same rubberised feel as the main body. The device is firmware upgradeable (there is information in the manual on how to do that) and you can charge your battery through the USB port, I would always advise to charge batteries externally.

On one side of the device there is the company name and on the other side the name of the device.

On the top of the device there is a sprung loaded 510 connector and three spacious ventilation grooves. On the base of the device, the name of the device and the company name are stamped into it.

The battery door comes with two very strong magnets top and bottom, this door does not move once connected, no rattling. With a sprung loaded battery pin, the battery is kept in place with a snug fit.

Looking at the screen

The screen shows a battery bar, the wattage, the ohms of the atomiser connected, the voltage and the ampage.

Using the device

Once the battery is inserted the device is on.

Locking the device – click the fire button five times rapidly, do the same to unlock the device. You will need to know/do this to access the other features on the device.

Setting the wattage – Use the +/- buttons to increase or decrease the wattage it scrolls in 0.1W increments. Holding the button will make it scroll through faster.

Locking power output – Hold the +/- buttons for three seconds (when the device is unlocked) and it will hold at your desired wattage. Stopping any accidental adjusting of power.

Standby mode – after ten seconds of no use the OLED screen will switch off, pressing any button will resume the screen.

Stealth mode – lock the device, press and hold the fire button and the – button for five seconds and the screen will remain off whilst in use. Repeat to return to normal mode.

Temperature Control mode – lock the device, press and hold the +/- button for two seconds (displayed wattage will turn to Celsius/Fahrenheit). Press the – button to go down to the Celsius range and + button to go to the Fahrenheit range. To turn Temperature Control off press the + button until the screen displays OFF.

When you have chosen your desired option press the fire button to finalise your selection.

TC Mode is only compatible with following coil types – Ni200/SS316/Ti

To select the material you are using, lock the device, press and hold the fire button and the +/- button together for two seconds and then use the +/- button to scroll through material types.

Thoughts and Conclusions

For the purpose of the review I have used the following atomisers:

  • JAC Vapour S22-Tank with 1.0Ω coil and 0.5Ω coil
  • Aspire Cleito with SS316L 0.4Ω coil, for testing temperature control mode

I have been using this device for the last four weeks now and I have been really impressed with its performance.

The device has a wonderful feel to it and sits in my hand really well. I have been using the device with the JAC Vapour S22-Tank mainly and I think the two together look really smart, it is like the tank just finishes it off aesthetically. I have used the two types of coils that come with the tank and I feel the device helps them perform to the best of their ability.

I used an Aspire Cleito for the purpose of testing out the performance in Temperature Control mode and though I don’t think it looks as good on top of this device as the S22-Tank it did perform very well. So it did serve its purpose.

I’m not usually one for a manual, I tend to work it out as I go along. But I have to say that this manual is excellent, really well put together and the information given goes above and beyond.

I would also advise reading it for a couple of reasons. For one this device doesn’t work in the same way other devices do when accessing the features. I really like how and why they have done it this way, by locking the device before performing any changes there isn’t the opportunity to accidentally fire the device, if feels nice and safe. Secondly there is some great information for everyone to help their vaping experience.

The one feature I really like is that once I have decided what wattage I desire I can lock that in. So many times with other devices I have found that I have altered my wattage accidentally. A great feature.

The one thing I would have liked to see in the manual is a atomiser resistance range rather than just one recommended resistance, it leaves me wondering what the resistance capabilities are of the device.

Battery life is excellent, I used a Sony VTC 5. Using the device at around 15 watts for a 1.0Ω coil I found it lasted for a good two days, if not a little longer. Using the device at around 40 watts for a 0.5Ω coil I have found that it lasted about a day.

The Series-B DNA 75W device is a fantastic little MOD giving great performance, a great look and easy to use. It not only performs really well with S22-Tank but it looks really good too. I would advise if you are looking to get the Series-B MOD then you should get the S22-Tank to go with it. The tank has a range of coils to suit all vapers, there are the two coils I have mentioned, but JAC Vapour also do a temperature control coil too. If you are not sure about the tank then check out my review by clicking here. I will be updating the review with my thoughts on the 0.5Ω coil soon.

Pros

  • Well designed solid device
  • Lovely feel to the device in hand
  • Easy to use
  • Good battery life
  • Great features, locking the desired wattage
  • Great Manual, lots of information
  • Looks really good with the S22-Tank on it

Cons

  • Would like to see a resistance range for the device in the manual
  • Need to read the manual as operating the device isn’t quite the same as other devices (Not really a con, but some might see it as one)

For me this British made device is high up on the list for devices of the same wattage level on the market. I’ve loved using it, a cracking device.
